On January 17, 1990, the Commander of the Marine Corps was appointed Commander of the Logistics Base in Albany. Reorganization establishes control of Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, California; Command Blount Island, Jacksonville, Florida, as well as Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, fall under this unified command. In response to the resulting changes, Commander on May 8, 2003 agreed to merge Marine Corps Materiel Command and Marine Corps Logistics Base to form a single command creating MarCorLogCom. Systems Command was reorganized as a separate field command under US Marine Corps Headquarters.

Marine Corp's logistics base is located in the southwestern part of the state called Plantation Trace in Albany, Georgia. Albany is about 3 hours south of Atlanta and 1.5 hours north of Tallahassee, Florida. and 2 hours east of Montgomery, Alabama. Macon, Columbus and Valdosta are about 1 hour each. MCLB Albany's mission is to provide integrated logistics/supply chain and distribution management worldwide; maintenance management at the depot level; and strategic pre-deployment capabilities, supporting operational forces to maximize their readiness and resilience, and supporting total lifecycle management (TLCM) at the enterprise and program levels. General Joseph Schrader, MARCORLOGCOM globally provides integrated operational-level surface equipment inventory and logistics capabilities to maximize Marine material readiness and resilience.

Founded on May 8, 2003, MARCORLOGCOM supports the active force, establishment and procurement community by providing value-added integrated logistics solutions. MARCORLOGCOM consists of the headquarters group and three subordinate commands: Blount Island Command, Marine Depot Maintenance Command, and Naval Storage Command.

The Marine Corps Logistics Command has seven key responsibilities to provide operational-level logistical support to the Marine Corps, life cycle logistics support to program managers, and Marine Corps ground equipment inventory/logistics control. These tasks include (1) enterprise depot level maintenance, (2) advanced deployment and war stockpile, (3) ground equipment inventory, (4) distribution, (5) storage, (6) weapons system life cycle support, and ( 7 ) ) operational level logistics. MARCORLOGCOM's primary focus is to provide maximum combat-ready equipment, support military operations through mission execution, and support redeployment/retrograde operations.
